STRESS MASTERY or HOW TO REWIRE YOUR BRAIN FOR BEING HEALTHY, PRODUCTIVE & HAVING PEACE OF MIND
Working with organizations and teams over the last year (2020-2021)in Neuroscience, Leadership & Human Performance, it became obvious that people were struggling to keep up. People & teams were falling back into default patterns of behavior that reinforced individual agenda’s, silo behavior, gossiping, and exclusivity. These are all leadership fundamentals that, in the face of uncertainty and complexity, start to resurface. I say people were struggling but to be accurate, I should say the human brain was struggling to persevere.
Our brain has not advanced in over 2 million years. Our capacity to deal with the significant increase in change, disruption and information coming at us is unprecedented. For some people, capacity increased at the same rate as the demands in their environment. For others, demand outweighed capacity and they scrambled to keep up. Either way, the brain does not flourish in a state of upheaval. It gets easily distracted, emotionally prickly, loses energy by 2PM and gets all wound up in negativity. We need to find a new way for people (and the brain) to work and thrive, at the same time!
What you might find surprising is what undermines collaboration, mental agility, resiliency and even happiness, is stress. Let's be honest, no one wants to admit that they can't handle stress. Yet, the statistics don't lie. 2019 stress statistics:
